Directions:
From I5 in Redding take the 299 Eureka/Weaverville exit heading west. Drive about 10 miles towards the
Whiskeytown Recreation Area. Park in the turnout area to your right just before the visitor center. South
Fork Lookout is the dirt road on your right.
The Trail:
Or should I say the dirt road. This is a dirt fire road that climbs gradually for about 6.5miles. Once you see the green gate on your left go around it and start puttin it uphill.
The only major turn will be a sharp left once the road gets up towards the radio towers. You'll know when you see it because
it's the one going up. A tower sits at the top where you can take in the views and enjoy your peanut butter & jelly sandwich.
It's not the most technically challenging trail, but it has some of the best views of the area. You can see Whiskeytown, Lassen, Shasta and down the Sacramento Valley.
